Brighton Voices Push Back Against UK Aid Cuts
BRIGHTON, United Kingdom — When the U.K. Government confirmed in July 2025 that it would continue diverting billions from the Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget to defence, academics and development experts in Brighton, warned that cuts to U.K. aid represent both a moral and strategic setback for the U.K.’s international standing.
Among them, Brighton Pavilion MP Siân Berry has been one of the most vocal critics in Westminster. “The U.K. should be stepping up and showing leadership, increasing aid and helping to create a more stable world,” she told constituents. “Instead, we are seeing the Prime Minister gutting our international aid budget to increase defence spending.”
